How I Use Astrology

Let me just say this straight-up for my fellow skeptics. I too narrow my eyes at the idea that the movement of Mars affects our day-to-day life. I’ve asked all the questions. Why not planets in other solar systems then? Why do some asteroids count, and not others? What about Earth’s “wobble"?

I’ve watched all of Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s condescending videos about how astrology isn’t scientifically sound, and I can shrug and say, “Yeah he’s probably right.”

But none of that changes the fact that discovering astrology is one of the single best things I’ve ever done for myself and my mental-health.

This is going to sound hyperbolic, but learning my birth chart allowed me to fully start showing up in my life as me.

Astrology helped me notice parts of my personality I didn't understand; like the fact that my sun, moon, mars and mercury all being in my 10th house is the reason I would genuinely rather be working than vacationing, hobby-ing, or literally anything else.

It helped me embrace parts of myself I was treating as flaws because they're not popular (my fierce homebody tendencies and love of routine—oh hey, Taurus Stellium!).

It helped me understand that I'm not a broken Aries because I've been told my entire life that I'm shy/quiet, it's just that I'm a Cancer Rising. Or that the fact that my Sun squares my Ascendant is the reason I've always felt a bit of friction of how I'm perceived vs. how I feel.

And it helped me understand that I didn't have a midlife crises at 40s because I quit my dream job to start an astrology blog, so much as my North Node kicking in.

Astrology gave me a new language and lens to understand myself, as well as determine what I want my days, weeks, and years to look like.

If you're new to astrology, here's my number one bit of advice:

Let astrology be fun.

You’re allowed to be curious about what kind of ice cream flavor your sign is, or if having your Mercury in Capricorn is the reason you sometimes sound robotic even when baring your soul.

Maybe astrology might give you the permission you need to be a little extra (Leo) to stop treating your emotions like weakness (Cancer) or understand that you’re allowed to be totally cynical and practical, and also believe in magic.

Maybe you just let astrology let you be …you.
